Start rehearsing with ActOnCue

Starting your rehearsal with ActOnCue is simple and intuitive. Once you've prepared your script and settings, the app steps in as your scene partner, voicing other characters and creating a natural rhythm so you can focus on your lines and performance. This guide will walk you through how to begin rehearsing effectively and make the most of the tools at your fingertips.

Step 1: Finalise your setup

Before starting, make sure you've finished assigning your role, selected voices you liked or added your own recordings for the other characters, and, if you're memorising, turned on Line Learning to hide your own lines down to word- or letter-level prompts.

Step 2: Choose a mode and tap Play

choose-a-mode

Above the control panel at the bottom of the screen, choose Listen (free, no speech recognition) or Perform (paid, listens for your voice), then tap the Play button in the middle of the panel. This takes you straight into the session, where your selected settings will be active. See Listen mode if you're not sure which to pick.

Step 3: Follow the scene flow and Rehearse freely

Now it's your scene. Say your lines out loud, listen to the rhythm of the dialogue, and use each run to explore the material. Whether you're working through tricky sections or doing a full run-through, the app creates a flexible, actor-friendly rehearsal space that works around your process.

The app will play through the script line by line. You'll hear the other characters read aloud, while your own lines will be left for you to speak. Depending on your Line Learning setting, your lines might show in full, or as word- or letter-level prompts, so you can focus on performance or memorisation.
