Rehearse

Rehearsing with ActOnCue lets you run scenes with realistic voices reading opposite you. Import your script and rehearse as many times as you need, voices are assigned automatically, so there's nothing extra to set up first.

Every session starts by picking a mode: Listen (free, no speech recognition - the app reads lines and leaves gaps for yours) or Perform (paid, listens for your voice and cues the next line automatically). Step 1: Load your script

Start by getting your material into ActOnCue, whether that's importing a file, pasting text, or generating a scene with AI. See Load your script for all three options plus how to review and fix formatting.

Step 2: Choose your role

Choose which character you want to rehearse as, Perform needs this to know which lines are yours. Every other character already has a voice assigned automatically, with its own accent, tone, and delivery style, so you're ready to go without touching voice settings at all.

Changing and previewing voices

If you'd like to change a voice for a character, open the Characters tab in the right sidebar or click on the name of the character whose voice you want to change within the script. You will see all characters in your script listed. Tap on any character to open the voice menu.

Browse the available options and use the play button to preview how each voice sounds before selecting it. Once you have picked a voice, it will automatically be saved. You can change voices at any time, even mid-rehearsal.

Step 3: Set your preferences

Before you begin rehearsing, adjust the settings to suit your style. Open the Settings icon in the control panel at the bottom of the screen to reach all of them in one popover:

• Reader - playback speed, cue lines only, auto loop, and stay-in-scene
• Line Learning - full script, word-level, or letter-level hiding to test your memory. See Learn lines for all visibility modes
• Perform - short cue, eager reader, and word tracking (Perform mode only)
• Appearance - text size, wide page, and highlight colour

Step 4: Start rehearsal

To start rehearsing tap the Play button and let the scene play out. Your scene partner will read every character's lines except yours. Speak your lines out loud as you go, just like in a real rehearsal.

The teleprompter will scroll automatically, following the flow of the scene.
