How to Learn Lines with Act On Cue
Learning lines isn’t just about repetition—it’s about recall, rhythm, and feeling connected to the scene. With Act On Cue, you can customise how you run lines to suit your memorisation style and move from reading to full recall with ease. Here’s how to use the app to help you lock in your lines.
Step 1: Import Your Script
To get started, tap Import PDF and upload your script. The app will scan it and get it ready for you to assign characters and rehearse.
Step 2: Select Your Character
Once your script is formatted, choose the role you’re learning. Assign that character to yourself, then select AI voices or your own recordings for the other roles in the scene.
Step 3: Choose a Line Learning Mode
Now, choose how you want the script to appear. If you're early in the process, you might want to show the full script. But once you're ready to challenge your memory, you can switch to a more focused mode.
For example, you can hide your lines entirely, or choose to reveal just the first three words or even the first three letters of each word—a technique that gives you just enough of a prompt without showing the full text. You can switch between these visibility options at any time as you progress.
Once you’ve made your selection, simply exit the side menu and tap Rehearse. You’ll see all your choices reflected in the rehearsal view, and you’ll be ready to start running your lines straight away.
Step 4: Adjust the Timing
Set the pace that works for you. You can slow down the AI voices, or insert pauses after each line, giving yourself more space to think before you speak. This is especially helpful when you're drilling tougher sections or transitioning off book.
Step 5: Run Line Rehearsals
Tap Start Rehearse and begin practising. The AI will voice the other characters, leaving space for you to speak your part. Try it with full visibility first, then gradually switch to cue-only mode as you gain confidence.
