How does pricing work?
ActOnCue is pay-as-you-go, and every fee ranges from free to paid. There are four: voiceover (free with your own recordings, or $0.19/min for AI voices), sessions (free in Listen mode, or $0.35/hr in Perform mode), imports ($0.01/page), and chat ($0.01/msg).
What is a session, and what's the difference between Perform and Listen?
A session is your rehearsal time: it starts when you press Play and ends when you press Stop, and the session fee is measured on that time. There are two modes. Listen is a free listening mode: the app reads the scene to you with no speech recognition, and the session time is free no matter how long or how often you run it. Perform is an active mode: you speak your lines out loud and the app listens live, recognises your cue, and advances as you perform. Because Perform uses real-time speech recognition, its session time is billed at $0.35/hr.
Do I have to pay for character voices?
No. You can upload your own recordings for any character and play them back for free, with no voice-generation fee. AI-generated voices cost $0.19/min of audio if you would rather not record your own, and that fee applies in any mode, including a free listening session.
Is replaying already generated voice lines free?
Yes. Once a voice line has been generated, it's cached and can be replayed as many times as you like without additional generation costs. You'll only be charged again if you change the text or create a completely new line. Note that Perform session charges still apply.
How much does a single scene cost?
It depends on the two fees that apply. With your own recordings in Listen, a scene is free. If you use AI voices, an average scene with ~3 minutes of speech costs about $0.51 to generate, in any mode. Running it in Perform adds the $0.35/hr session fee on top. The Monthly plan includes $15 of usage, enough for dozens of scenes.
What plans are available?
ActOnCue offers a Free plan (unlimited Listen, your own recordings, and 3 hours of Perform), a Monthly subscription ($10/mo with $15 of usage), an Annual subscription ($99/yr with $180 of usage, save $21), and a one-time $20 top-up.
What are Advanced PDF imports?
Advanced PDF imports automatically analyze and structure a script, identifying scenes, characters, and dialogue from the PDF. This saves time and improves accuracy compared to basic imports. Each page costs $0.01.
Is a listening session really free?
The session time is free and unlimited: pressing Play in Listen never costs anything. But Listen only waives the session fee, not the voiceover fee. If a character is played by an AI voice, that line still costs $0.19/min to generate, even in a listening session. For a run with no fees at all, use Listen and voice every character with your own recordings.
What is a top-up and how does it work?
A top-up is a one-time $20 payment that adds $20 of usage to your balance. Nothing renews. The paid fees (AI voices, Perform, imports, chat) draw down that balance as you use them, while free features never touch it. When it reaches zero, free features keep working and you can top up again anytime.
What happens to my credit on renewal?
Your credit rolls over. At each renewal you get your plan's usage ($15 Monthly, $180 Annual), plus whatever credit you carried. Leftover credit and top-ups stack on top of the fresh credit, with the total capped at $30. For example, $5 left plus a new $15 gives you $20. Annual always gets its full $180. See the pricing guide for examples.
How can I cancel?
Cancellation is available online anytime. Go to the dashboard, then account, then billing. Your rolled-over credit is cleared at the end of your billing period, so cancelling starts you fresh, though a top-up bought during your final period is protected (up to $30).
Do you offer student or school discounts?
There is no student discount at the moment, since the product can be used very cheaply or for free as is. For schools or volume, please get in touch via the contact form for a custom package.
