The self tape reader that books your next role
No begging a friend, no juggling a reader app and your camera. Rehearse with the reader and record your tape in the same place.
Sign upReads any PDF
Drop in your sides as a PDF (even a messy, badly scanned one) and your reader is ready to run the scene in seconds. It listens for your cue and responds like a real scene partner.

Camera built in
Reader and camera live in the same app. Run the scene, then hit record without switching devices or apps. There's nothing to sync afterwards.

Real voices, on cue
Have a friend read the other characters once. The reader plays their takes back on cue: every take, all night. Or record them yourself. AI voices matched by gender, age, and accent are there when you need them.

Teleprompter
Blank on a line mid-take? The teleprompter follows your voice and scrolls with you, so you stay on script without breaking eye-line.

Set up in under a minute
- Drop your sides as a PDF. Pick your character. Choose a voice for the reader. Hit play.
Record in one place
- Go from running lines to recording your tape in the same session. Nothing to sync.
Last-minute auditions
- Got sides at 10pm for a 9am deadline? Upload, rehearse, and record without waiting for anyone.
Consistent every take
- Your reader delivers the same read every time, so you can focus on your performance.
Skip the reader hunt
Getting a tape done the old way means finding a person free tonight. Here's how taping on your own compares.
Self-tape with Act-On-Cue
Reader + camera in one app
- Ready 24/7: tape the moment your sides land
- From cold PDF to first take in under a minute
- The same read every take, so only your performance changes
- Direct the reader's voice, pace, and emotion per line
- Want a human read? Record the lines yourself or with a friend, cued back perfectly every take
- A fraction of the cost of booking a reader
- Record on your phone in the same app, nothing to sync
Booking a live reader
Coordinating with another person
- A real person reading with you
- Doesn't scale, and a hassle when you tape often
- Means tipping readers, or favours you owe back
- Costs more per audition, and takes more time
- Often comes with unsolicited notes on your acting
- You still film and sync the tape yourself
Self-taping is about getting the tape done. Learn the craft where it belongs, in an acting class or on set, not from whoever's free to read tonight.
Responsible use of AI that aligns with creative values
Using AI is completely optional. We use it to make messy scripts readable, to recognise your cues, and (if you want) to voice the other characters. You stay in control of every generation, and can always use your own recordings instead.
Script understanding
- Upload a PDF or paste your sides (even messy, badly formatted ones) and AI turns them into a clean script you can rehearse from.
Speech recognition
- As you perform, AI recognises what you say and when you hit your cue, so the reader responds at exactly the right moment.
Voice generation (optional)
- AI can voice the other characters, and you direct the delivery with your own references. Prefer human audio? So do we! You can record your lines yourself or with a friend to produce human, authentic self tape audio.

Your questions, answered
Feel free to contact us with your ideas or questions!
What is a self-tape reader?
A self-tape reader plays the other characters in your scene while you record your audition tape. It listens to your lines, recognizes cues, and responds naturally so you can tape without needing another person in the room.
Does it use AI?
Yes. An AI reader plays the other characters: it listens for your cue and responds in real time, not on a timer. You can pick from a library of realistic voices or generate the reader from your own recordings for a natural, familiar read.
Will my tape sound like AI?
Only if you want it to. You can record every character's lines yourself or with a friend, so the audio on your tape is fully human. The app simply plays each take back on cue.
Do I need someone else to read for me?
No. The AI reader handles all other characters in the scene. You rehearse and record on your own schedule, no one else in the room.
Is it an app, or does it work online?
Both. It runs online in any browser, and there's a dedicated iOS app for recording. Rehearse on your laptop and record your tape on your phone; everything stays in sync.
Can I record video from the app?
Yes. The iOS app lets you rehearse with the reader and record your self-tape from the same screen, so there's nothing to sync afterwards.
Can I use my own voice for the reader?
Yes, two ways. Record each line yourself or with a friend and the reader plays your takes back on cue. Or generate a voice from your own recordings so it sounds like someone you'd actually run lines with. Either way, you direct how each line is delivered.
Can I make a tape with fully human audio?
Yes. Record or upload a human take for every line and rehearse against those. The audio on your tape stays entirely human, and AI voices are optional.
How fast can I get a tape done?
Most actors go from uploading sides to a finished tape in under 10 minutes. Drop your PDF, pick a voice, rehearse a few takes, and record.
Is it free?
You can start for free: upload your sides and rehearse with the reader. Premium voices and extended usage are available through a subscription or one-time top-up.
What if I get sides last minute?
That's exactly what this is built for. Upload your PDF, and you're rehearsing in under a minute, any hour, no waiting on anyone.
